Q: Whats different about your cages strength VS other companies cages? A: 1).Our design is weight bearing the load is put on the corners where it should be. 2). We also use a door stop that doubles as a header beam over the door. The cages have feet putting the load of a stack over only the corners of the cage ( the strongest point) this feature also gives you the air space required by all makers of every type of under tank heat. All of our cages parts if joined join in a machined dado channel, like high end cabinetry. We use only solid Plastics in the construction of our products, they are hand built one at a time to last the test of time..
Q: How can I heat my cage? A: Under tank heat, Ultratherm, cobra heat mats, Calorique (flexwatt) all work great for a hot spot in a single cage setup. In a stacked cage setup under tank heat will probably be all you need as the heat from the cage above helps heat the cage below. If you have only one cage and you keep your home relatively cool inside a radiant heat panel can be used to both make hot spot and heat the rest of the cage as well. If you keep Lizards or animals that require higher heat, radiant heat panels are your answer. You do not need hot bulbs.. Radiant heat panels can be mounted right inside the cage and are safe to touch for both you and the animal within. Say you were keeping a bearded dragon, a radiant heat panel, and florescent UV light mounted to the inside ceiling is going to be what you need.
Q: How should I attach the heat to the bottom of the cage? A: Foil tape, it is available in any hardware store and is used for HVAC It is meant to be able to handle heat and will not peel off, or off gas fumes. Be SURE you don't have foil tape touching any electrical connections on something you may have wired yourself! The heat should not cover more than 1/3 of the floor space so the animal has space to escape the heat. In a 4ft cage I put 2ft x 1ft of heat running from one end toward the center of the cage. So there is a hot spot toward the back of the cage on one end, it is slightly cooler toward the front on that end, and the other side is the cooler side of the enclosure. You may do it differently but thats what works best for me.
Q: What are the doors made of? A: Cast Acrylic, this is a high quality acrylic, it is more scratch resistant and heat resistant than they acrylic you'd see in most home improvement stores ( with a blue or clear film protective cover.) Cast Acrylic will never change color over time, it can be polished quite easily with acrylic polish to remove any scratches you may get over time. An example of how long it will last: WWII Aircraft have Acrylic Canopies on them and they are still clear to this day...
Q: Are your cages leak proof? A: Yes they are.
Q: How high can I stack these cages? A: Right to the ceiling in most cases. Just depends on how high you want to climb to see your critters. I recommend stacking the cages no higher than you can see into them so you always know what is happening with each animal.
Q: How long does it take to have my cages made? A: Cages don't take to long to construct, but you may have to wait a while as we may be completing orders that are in ahead of yours. We will email tracking numbers to you when they ship out. Please be patient while waiting for your order, The folks who may have ordered before or after you have to do the same. We want to get your order to you as badly as you want it. If you are in a rush to get your cages or racks please email me to check on lead time.
Q: How long does shipping take? A: Up to a week depending on where you are located in the country.
Q: What if my cage is broken during shipping? A: We've got you covered, all of our cages are insured for shipping. If your cages happen to get thrashed to the point of breakage during shipping let us know right away, and fedex will come and pick it up, and we will replace it no charge to you. These cages VERY rarely ever break, accept for in the most extreme cases!
Q: How is the cage vented? A: The cages have a small space about 1/8th of an inch on both sides of the doors in most cases. You really don't need or want more vents, even on many animals from an arid climate. If you feel you need more vents and it's the deal liker we will ad more vents, but it isn't needed in most cases. You may be asking, Why? Because the cage is heated it is going to work as it's own air pump. Heated air naturally travels toward cooler air via convection. So the warm air in the cage is going to slowly escape into the cooler room, as that air escapes it draws in fresh air from the room.
Q: I don't see the cage, or rack size I need do you make custom sizes? A: Yes we do. We make custom sizes all of the time. Be it an odd sized nook in your home you want to fill, or just something special you want done, shoot me an email, or give me a call. If it can be done we'll do it.
Q: What sized cage should I use for my reptile? A: Difficult to answer with a 100% right answer. Give it as much space as you can afford to give it, but not so large that it will be hard to heat. If the space isn't heated properly it isn't going to be utilized by the animal. Most reptiles your going to be looking for floor space. So a 4ft X 2 ft cage has 8 square feet of floor space. My general formula is this for snakes. 1ft of snake= 1 square foot of floor space. Cage should be as long as half of the snake as a minimum, so an 8ft snake is going to be the max for a 4ft long cage. The cage should be wide enough for the snake to be in a comfortable coil without touching the front or back of the cage. Arboreal Snakes, use cubic feet instead of square feet for the cage size. Lizards and other legged reptiles, these guys need room to move as legs are harder to exercise than critter that don't have them. Take the length of the lizard in feet and multiply it by 4. Round up rather than down on any of the above if your not sure on the exact size.
